Frequently Asked Questions

Everything from playable songs and imports to purchases, storage, and LiveTunes Studio exports.

LiveTunes can only play songs that exist as local audio files on your device and are accessible to third-party apps. If a song is an Apple Music subscription version, protected, or only stored in iCloud, LiveTunes may still see it in your library but cannot play it.

Try this:

  • In the Music app, make sure the song is downloaded to your device.
  • If you purchased the song, use the steps in How do I restore a purchased song? below.
  • If the song came from a CD, MP3, or your computer, sync it again (Finder, iTunes, or Music app), or import the audio file using the Files app.

Tip: After making changes in Music, return to LiveTunes and refresh your library.

This is most common after enabling Apple Music Sync Library. In some cases, Sync Library can replace older downloads or synced files with Apple Music “matched” or subscription versions that are not accessible to third-party apps. The song can still appear in your library, but become unavailable to LiveTunes.

How to fix it:

  • If you purchased the song: follow the “Restore a purchased song” steps below.
  • If the song came from a CD or was synced from a computer: sync it again from your computer, or import the audio file into LiveTunes using Files.
  • If the song is only available as an Apple Music version: you may need to purchase it, or use your own local file instead.

Tip: After restoring or syncing, return to LiveTunes and refresh your library.

If Sync Library is enabled, Apple may replace or “match” your copies to Apple Music versions. That can prevent third-party apps from accessing the local audio file.

This can also cause:

  • A large jump in “unplayable” songs in LiveTunes
  • Duplicates, where one version is playable and another is grayed out

If you want the most reliable fix:

  • Import using the Files app, which is usually the best option because it bypasses Music’s matching behavior.
  • Or sync from a computer with Sync Library turned off, so your tracks are stored locally on the device.

Note: Turning Sync Library off can reduce cloud-only duplicates and unplayable versions, but it won’t always restore removed copies automatically. You may still need to re-sync from a computer or re-download the purchased version.

Sometimes a purchased song can appear as an Apple Music version after Sync Library. On newer iOS versions, the quickest workaround is to remove the current version first, then download again from the iTunes Store listing.

  1. Open the Music app and find the song.
  2. Tap and hold the song, then choose Remove Download.
  3. If the song still won’t restore correctly, tap and hold again and choose Delete from Library.
  4. Open the iTunes Store app and search for the song.
  5. Open the song’s store page and tap the cloud download icon.
  6. If it asks you to buy it, continue. Apple may confirm you already own it and then download a playable copy.
  7. Return to LiveTunes and refresh your library.

Note: The download option may not show up until you remove the current Music app version first.

This usually happens after enabling Apple Music Sync Library. Apple may keep or re-add a cloud version of a song in your library while your iPhone still has a separate local copy.

In LiveTunes:

  • The playable version is typically the local file, such as a purchased download, synced track, or imported audio file.
  • The grayed out version is typically the Apple Music or iCloud matched version that third-party apps cannot access as a local audio file.

What to do:

  • Use the playable non-grayed version in LiveTunes.
  • If only the grayed out version exists, restore a purchased copy, re-sync from a computer, or import the audio file using the Files app.

Tip: If you want the most reliable fix, import audio using Files, or sync from a computer with Sync Library turned off.

A song is playable in LiveTunes when it’s available as a local audio file on your device and accessible to third-party apps.

Playable usually means:

  • You purchased it and the purchased copy is downloaded to your device.
  • You synced it from a computer and it’s stored locally.
  • You imported it as an audio file using the Files app.

Not playable usually means:

  • It’s an Apple Music subscription version, even if it looks downloaded in Music.
  • It’s only in iCloud and not downloaded as a local file.
  • It’s an older protected purchase or a matched version that isn’t accessible to third-party apps.

Tip: If songs were playable before and suddenly aren’t, Sync Library may have replaced some downloads. Try restoring the purchased copy, importing via Files, or re-syncing from a computer, then refresh your library in LiveTunes.

We love discovering new artists and sharing great music. To get your songs featured in the LiveTunes app, fill out our quick Artist Submission Form. You can submit your tracks, tell us about yourself, and request premium placement in our Featured Artists section.

All artists, independent, emerging, or established, are welcome.

Go to the More Venues section inside the app and tap Restore in the top right. That will recover anything you have unlocked before.

From the Library, tap the folder icon at the top to import files from your iPhone’s Files app, Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud Drive. You can also select from Files when creating Setlists.

LiveTunes converts imported tracks to a high quality audio format, CAF, so our venue effects can sound their best. This helps our convolution reverb engine run smoothly and deliver more realistic room acoustics.

If you import lots of songs, the converted copies can add up, but you can remove them anytime in Manage Storage.

LiveTunes Studio gives you two export options, and they are designed for two different goals.

Bounce Current Track is the fast option. It exports one song at a time and adds a simple fade at the end so it finishes cleanly.

Render Full Show is for the live album effect. In crowd-heavy Studio projects, the audience and venue sound are constantly evolving, and a lot of behind-the-scenes sound design is happening to keep it feeling real.

That means the crowd is not a static loop that can be restarted and perfectly match the next song. If you export songs separately, the crowd ambience will rarely line up seamlessly between tracks.

To get the most realistic, seamless crowd flow from one song to the next, LiveTunes exports the full project in sequence. This can take a while because it runs in real time based on your project length, but the result is a smoother, more convincing live performance.

The good news is LiveTunes still saves separate files for each track when the project export is finished.

Tip: If your project uses lighter crowd FX, exporting single tracks is usually fine. If you want that true continuous live show feel, use Render Full Show.

Yes. All LiveTunes playback is from downloaded files. Keep in mind you will need to be online to import new files from the cloud.

LiveTunes supports MP3, WAV, CAF, and M4A files that are not DRM-protected. Files from the Files app, Dropbox, or iCloud Drive can be imported through the Library tab or Setlist creation screen.

Bluetooth adds a small delay, usually around one second, when playing audio. This is normal across many apps. Most users will not notice during normal playback, but real-time effects like swiping to trigger crowd noise may feel slightly out of sync.

For the most responsive experience, use wired headphones or your phone’s built-in speakers.

No. Apple Music and Spotify streaming tracks are DRM-protected and not accessible by LiveTunes. To use a song, you must own it and download a DRM-free version of the file.

If an imported file is moved or deleted from your device, for example if iCloud offloads it, LiveTunes will not be able to find it. Try re-importing the file or making sure it is downloaded to local storage.

Not yet. LiveTunes is currently iOS-only, but future platform expansion is something being explored. Stay tuned.
